Reason #41 Calling Builders of All Ages and Abilities (and your dogs, too!)

Sandsations sandcastle contest is a family-focused week of salty adventure. The week begins with professional sand sculptors creating and teaching in downtown Long Beach and culminates with an all ages, all abilities contest on Saturday. Free lessons on the beach for the kids Friday.  Free hot dogs Saturday, along with the all-are-welcome-free-to-enter Sand Flea Pet Parade. July 25-29.

Reason #33 Celebrate the only railroad that ran with the tides

Rich with history, the Clamshell Railroad served the Long Beach Peninsula from 1889-1930. Bus tours, presentations and layouts galore are featured at this annual celebration of the rail.  Kids will have plenty to see and do with an expanded Lego Train and the G-scale Thomas and Percy train.  The Kids Craft Corner returns with box cars, coloring pages and more.  It’s all at Clamshell Railroad Days, July 14-15.
